The value of consistency

Of all the things that I do well or get credit for its not because I’m great or necessarily do a good job I’ve just been consistent. Committed to do better, stay the course, do what’s right, or solve the problem. In todays microwave society that wants everything now and changes like the wind, consistency is fairly under rated attribute. Although it is a desired feature in employees and even bosses and government.

So what does it mean to be consistent? Being consistent means you can be trusted, your actions are thought out and there is an overarching theme to who and what you are.

Those who are consistent tend to have the long game in mind and don’t let short term challenges or trials set them off course. Consistency is baked into their personality, their interactions and their goals. There is a theme or deeper purpose to their lives and it shows in their interactions with other people and decisions and reactions. They, like a marathon runner know they still have a way to go and they pace themselves accordingly.

This long term approach means the consistent persons actions are more thought out and weighed against the long term goals as opposed to constantly changing or clinging to some new thought or idea. Asking what does this mean or if I do this what does that mean for the future. Or what will this decision do to the long game.

Finally they can be trusted, because the consistent person is seen as stable, they’re always there, they do what is required, they go above and beyond, they have our best interest in mind. They become a go to source for honest answers, hard work or hope in times of fear and change.

Consistency is not easy to achieve it requires that we calm ourselves down, think things through to their logical conclusions, and fight the urge to flee or lose heart. That’s hard to do in a world that is motivated by fear, irrationality, and instant gratification. But the world is looking for an anchor and something stable to believe in again, can you be that person?
